Fast-rising Afrobeats artiste Awosika Josiah, popularly known as Fido, has issued a public apology following months of criticism and online backlash that accompanied his swift rise in Nigeria’s music scene.

The ‘Joy Is Coming’ singer shared the statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, admitting he struggled to manage the pressures of sudden fame.

“There’s no easy way to write this… I messed up,” he wrote, acknowledging that his transition from aspiring artiste to public figure happened faster than he was prepared for.

Fido said ego, excitement and inexperience influenced some of his past remarks and decisions. “I said things that should never have been said… That’s not who I want to be,” he added.

His apology followed heated online debates, particularly involving rival fanbases of Wizkid and Davido.

The backlash intensified after he used the phrase “Osakpolor FC” during a live session, a comment many interpreted as a jab at Davido’s 30BG supporters.

Although he later described the remark as a misunderstanding, the controversy continued to trail his public appearances.

Concluding his statement, Fido said the experience has pushed him toward reflection and growth, promising that his upcoming music will come from a “deeper” and “more grateful” place.
