APC Refutes ADC Claims Over Edo Violence

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is the architect of its own misfortune and requires no external assistance to “bring about its political downfall.”

The APC stated this while reacting to ADC’s allegation that it orchestrated the recent attack on Peter Obi and some party chieftains, including John Odigie-Oyegun, by suspected thugs at the ADC secretariat in Benin City.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party said the ADC was “doing a fine job crippling itself even before it has the chance to stand firmly.”

“The ADC and its leaders are insufferable jesters. They deploy dark humour as a tactic to deceive, distract, and disrupt in a desperate quest for public sympathy,” the statement read.

Morka added that ADC’s February 25, 2026 claim that the APC was responsible for the shooting incident involving its members in Edo State was “utterly delusional.”

“Accusing the APC even before law enforcement carries out an investigation is senseless,” he said. “By drawing such baseless conclusions, the ADC has made itself the accuser, investigator, prosecutor, and judge in its own matter.”

Morka further questioned how a party that “cannot manage a single incident with maturity and due regard for legal process” could be trusted with issues as complex as Nigeria’s security landscape.

He described the ADC’s reference to “acts of terrorism by the APC” as reckless, unfounded, and insensitive to the sacrifices of frontline troops combating terrorism.

“Violence of any kind in our political space is unacceptable and must be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians,” he said, adding that the APC condemns the reported shooting in Edo State.

He urged the police and other security agencies to conduct a swift and thorough investigation and ensure the perpetrators face justice.

According to him, such an investigation should begin with “a close look at the ADC, its leaders, and its members as primary suspects,” noting that the party is beset by internal leadership battles and “cult-like supremacy struggles.”

“The ADC cannot smear our great party with a violent incident of its own making,” he asserted.

Morka stressed that the APC had “absolutely no involvement” in the incident, saying the party was focused on reviewing its recent electoral successes in the Federal Capital Territory, Rivers State, and Kano State elections, rather than on what he described as “an inconsequential gathering of ADC wanderers in Edo State.”

He added that instead of casting baseless accusations, the ADC should reflect on its “continuous poor performance” in recent by-elections.

Morka concluded by expressing gratitude to Nigerians for their growing support for the APC, especially voters in the FCT, Kano, and Rivers, whom he said had reaffirmed confidence in the party and in the leadership of Bola Tinubu.
