The Nigerian Senate has called for the removal of the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Husaini Magaji, following his repeated failure to honour invitations to appear before lawmakers.

The resolution was adopted after a motion was moved by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu when members of the President’s economic team appeared before the Senate Committee on Finance.

During the introduction of heads of agencies at the start of the session, which began on a tense note, lawmakers expressed displeasure over the absence of the CAC boss, who had been invited to provide an account of the commission’s activities.

Moving the motion, Senator Kalu criticised what he described as the Registrar-General’s persistent refusal to appear before the committee.

“Since I came to the Senate, he has always given excuses that he is in the Villa,” Kalu said.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, also raised concerns over unresolved issues relating to the reconciliation of the commission’s revenues.

He noted that the CAC chief had repeatedly failed to appear before the panel to address the matters.

Supporting the motion, Senator Adams Oshiomhole proposed that the Senate take further action by withholding approval of the commission’s 2026 budget as a measure to compel compliance.

Following deliberations, the Senate adopted the motion urging the President to remove the CAC Registrar-General over what lawmakers described as disregard for legislative oversight.
