The Kaduna State Government has formally taken over the iconic Ahmadu Bello Stadium from the Federal Government, through the National Sports Commission (NSC), following approval by President Bola Tinubu.

The transfer marks a major milestone in Kaduna Government’s drive to reposition sports as a catalyst for economic growth and social development.

Originally commissioned in 1964, the stadium located in Kaduna metropolis is now undergoing comprehensive reconstruction. Its seating capacity will be expanded from 16,000 to 32,000 — making it the second-largest stadium in Nigeria after the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

According to a post on the verified Facebook page of Governor Uba Sani late Thursday, the upgrade is expected to stimulate economic activity, promote sports tourism, create jobs, and attract investment into the State.

“Importantly, the stadium will remain a national asset, open to Nigeria’s national teams, federal sporting programmes, and major events of collective importance,” the Kaduna State governor stated.
