The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has commended the judgment of the High Court of Oyo State , which affirmed the validity of the Party’s National Convention held in Ibadan.
The judgment, delivered by Justice Ladiran Akintola granted all the reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi.
The Court declared that the convention was properly conducted and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) (Independent National Electoral Commission) to recognise and give full effect to all decisions and outcomes of the exercise.
According to a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the suit was filed by senior advocate Musibau Adetunbi on behalf of Adelabi, a registered member of the Party.
Adelabi approached the Court to protect his constitutional right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association, seeking orders compelling the PDP to conduct its elections as publicly advertised and directing INEC to honour the results of the convention.
Recall that the Court had earlier granted interim orders on November 3, 2025, which were renewed on November 14, 2025.
These orders formed the legal basis for the convention, which eventually held on November 15 and 16, 2025. Yesterday’s judgment affirms those earlier directives and brings the legal contest to a definitive close at the trial level.
The PDP described the ruling as “a vindication of both fact and law,” insisting that the Ibadan convention was conducted transparently and in full compliance with the Party’s constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The statement further commended the judiciary for what it called “courage and fidelity to justice,” expressing renewed confidence in the courts as an independent arbiter and “the last hope of the ordinary citizen.”
While applauding the High Court’s decision, the Party reiterated its commitment to pursuing all legitimate legal avenues to ensure that justice is fully served, expressing confidence that appellate courts will similarly uphold the law “without fear or favour.”
