Vice Chancellor Urges New Students To Embrace Hard Work, Integrity

Acting Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), Dr Mukail Aremu Akinde, has charged the newly matriculated students of the institution for the year 2025/2026 academic session to embrace integrity and hard work as core values of their endeavours throughout the period of their stay in the university.

The Acting VC in his message of encouragement declared that any students, who failed at maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and the host community, as well as adhere to the institutional rules and regulations may not scale through his or her academic pursuit in the university.

Akinde stated these while delivering his address at the matriculation ceremony for the year 2025/2026 academic session, held at the institution’s Dr. Raheem Oloyo Conference Centre in Ilaro, headquarters of the Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Speaking before the over 16,000 matriculating students, Akinde also assured parents and guardians that FUTI would provide a nurturing environment for their children to enable them thrive in their academic and moral pursuit.

“Our goal is to build a globally relevant technology-driven university that will drive innovation and national development,” the Acting VC Akinde assured.

Commenting on the university status currently attained by the institution, Akinde explained that the historic transformation from being the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), followed President Tinubu’s assent to the Establishment Act in 2024, which was gazetted in May 2025.

He said the upgrade would strengthen Nigeria’s technological and innovation ecosystem and position FUTI as a key hub for technical and applied sciences.

He also explained that FUTI is strongly committed to producing globally competitive graduates through “hands-on-training” and entrepreneurship initiatives with facilities such as the Entrepreneurship Development and Skill Acquisition Centre (EDASAC), Innovation Centre and CISCO e-learning platforms as critical to preparing students for the modern day workforce.

The VC however, disclosed that a total of 16, 510 students of the institution matriculated for the year 2025/2026 academic session out of the total number of 19,810 candidates that applied for admission into the university.

He further explained that the students were admitted to pursue their courses from across the 104 academic programmes that included engineering, applied sciences, agriculture, and environmental studies among others, which the institution currently runs.
