PDP Denies Conducting Congresses, Blames Expelled Members For Misinformation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted widespread claims that it is conducting congresses in parts of the country, describing the reports as false, misleading, and the handiwork of expelled members working with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued by its National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, the party warned its members and the general public to disregard the alleged congress schedules currently circulating. Turaki said the individuals behind the misinformation had already shown their political leanings and were acting as agents of the ruling party.

According to him, “The false information and illegal association being promoted are part of a wider plan by those who previously mortgaged the fate of our party to the President and the APC in exchange for political appointments and other personal favours.”

He accused the expelled members of attempting to weaken the PDP and undermine Nigeria’s multiparty democratic system.

Turaki cited their alleged conduct during the recent FCT Area Council Elections as evidence of their intentions to use the PDP platform as a tool for political negotiation rather than genuine party development.

The party clarified that it is not holding congresses anywhere in the country at this time. Instead, it is currently focused on its nationwide digital membership registration exercise, which Turaki said is “progressing well.”

He assured members that the party leadership would continue to provide updates as new political realities unfold.
“We remain committed to strengthening our internal processes and safeguarding our democratic structures,” the statement added.
