Legendary actor and comedian Jim Carrey has triggered not just plastic surgery rumours but also talks about clones.
The ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ actor made a public appearance in Paris late February this year with his family, when he accepted the Lifetime Achievement Cesar d’honneur, at France’s 51st César Awards on February 26.
His speech was conveyed in French, where he also put to rest rumours about his love life by confirming his relationship with actress Min Ah.
Carey had previously announced in 2022, before the release of “Sonic 2,” that he was taking a break from acting so he could get out of people’s faces, he told the media at the time. “I do value the rest, you know. And I also value getting out of people’s faces.”
Following his reappearance in the spotlight, video clips and photos of the Canadian-American actor were all over social media, with fans commenting on how he looked and what had happened to him.
In a video making the rounds, Carrey said, “It’s a wonderful feeling… I took on a big challenge trying to do my speech in French,” he told reporters. “It was a brilliant evening, a really brilliant evening.”
An X user asked, “This is not the same person, right?”
“Does EVERY celebrity have a body double, now? THAT is NOT Jim Carey,” another commented.
“It’s him. Facelift, eye tuck or whatever it’s called, and brown eyes can appear lighter in different lighting. Hairline changes with age and widens further with a facelift due to skin pulling back. Same voice, same mannerisms, next,” another added.
The clone rumours were further fuelled when a famous makeup and performance artist, Alexis Stone, known for dressing up like celebrities over the years, posted on Instagram, claiming he had masqueraded as Carrey at the Awards and shared some photos.
However, the general delegate of the Cesar Awards refuted the wild rumours, saying Carrey’s appearance at the Awards ceremony was authentic and “a historic moment.”
An award-winning expert in prosthetics and masks, David Malinowski has also debunked Stone’s claims, telling the media the person who attended the Award ceremony in Paris was indeed Jim Carrey.
