Senator Mpigi: Akpabio Leads Senate Delegation for Condolence Visit

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Monday led a delegation of senators on a condolence visit to the family of their late colleague, Barinada Mpigi, at his residence in Abuja.

According to a statement issued to journalists by the Special Assistant to the Senate President on Media, Jackson Udom, the visit was aimed at expressing solidarity with the bereaved family and demonstrating the Senate’s support during their time of mourning.

Until his passing last week in a London hospital, Mpigi represented Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Speaking during the visit, Akpabio described the late lawmaker’s death as a significant loss to both the National Assembly and the country, noting that his contributions to legislative development and national growth would be long remembered.

“Senator Mpigi was a committed public servant who made meaningful contributions to nation-building. He remained devoted to the welfare of his constituents, and his passion for service will not be forgotten. His legacy will continue to inspire younger generations,” he said.

The Senate President urged the family to take solace in the impactful life the late senator lived and assured them that the Senate and the entire National Assembly share in their grief.

He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and for strength and fortitude for the family to bear the irreparable loss.
