A former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State, Dr. David Ombugadu, has joined the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ombugadu, who defected to the PDP in 2014 from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), registered as a member of the ruling party on Monday

LEADERSHIP reports that the former opposition leader had recently resigned his membership of the PDP.

In a letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of PDP, Ika Wangibi Ward, Nasarawa Eggon LGA, he cited internal conflicts and a leadership crisis within the party as reasons for his exit.

The letter, however, was silent on his next political move or the platform he intended to join.

Nevertheless, pictures of the two-term member of the House of Representatives receiving the APC membership card went viral on social media Monday night.

The Chairman of the APC in Nasarawa State, Aliyu Bello, confirmed to our correspondent that Ombugadu had joined the party.

Bello said that Ombugadu had not only become a member of the governing party but had also participated in its registration exercise.
“I can confirm to you that he is now part of the APC big family,” he stated.

He added that the former opposition figure is an asset to the party due to his widespread influence across the state.
Ombugadu first contested the governorship election in the state in 2019 but lost.

In 2023, he contested again and caused a major upset, leading to a prolonged legal tussle that went all the way to the Supreme Court of Nigeria before the incumbent was eventually affirmed.
