Ayu’s Chairmanship Is Injustice To South – Ohuabunwa

Senator Mao Ohuabunwa has said Dr Iyorcha Ayu’s occupation of the national chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is an injustice to the South of the country.

Ohuabunwa spoke with LEADERSHIP Weekend on the sidelines of the flag-off of the 2023 campaign of the Abia State chapter of the PDP in Umuahia, the state capital on Thursday.

He said the G5 governors and the integrity group’s position against the chairman of the opposition party is based on equity, justice and fairness to every section of the country.

“The presidential ticket is not the issue. As far as the party is concerned, everything about the ticket has been settled and done with. We want the chairman to be from the South,” he insisted.

He argued that Ayu should have vacated the office immediately after the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate to make way for a southerner to take over.

The former senator for Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency at the National Assembly said the party’s constitution is very clear on how both positions should be zoned.

“With the presidential ticket in the North, it is given that the chairmanship should reside in the South. This must be done to appease frayed nerves and for the party to move ahead.

“Ayu’s priority as a father should be how the PDP should get back to power. I am one of those, who insist that he should vacate the seat without further delay as he had earlier promised.”

Speaking on his political agenda for 2023, Senator Ohuabunwa who represented Abia North from 2015 to 2019 in the upper chamber said his chances are becoming brighter by every passing day.

He alleged that his successor, the chief whip of the Senate and former governor of the state, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu’s performance has put the district in pause mood.
