South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has declared the country prepared to host the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) on short notice if Morocco decides to withdraw. Scheduled for March 17 to April 3, uncertainty surrounds the venue as the Confederation of African Football is expected to make a final decision soon.

McKenzie asserted, “We have the stadiums, infrastructure, and transportation systems better than any country in Africa.” He criticized the treatment of women’s football, noting that if it were a men’s tournament, planning would be more organized.

The uncertainty stems partly from Morocco’s disappointing performance in the recent men’s Africa Cup of Nations, leading to speculation about their commitment to hosting Wafcon. McKenzie emphasized South Africa’s readiness to step in and support women’s football without hesitation.
