First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, has said the coincidence of the Ramadan fast and the Christian Lenten season sends a message from God to Nigerians on the need for unity and harmonious living.

She stated this while hosting an interfaith breaking of fast for women drawn from different sectors of society.

According to the First Lady, the alignment of the two fasting periods carries a strong message about peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

“Since the Ramadan fast was announced, and the Lenten season began together, it was like God was speaking to us as a nation,” she said in a statement by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi.

Senator Tinubu said religious teachings emphasise love for God and love for one another, urging Nigerians to embrace these values.

Drawing from her nearly four decades of interfaith marriage to President Bola Tinubu, she encouraged Nigerians to promote religious harmony and mutual respect.

She also challenged women, particularly those whose spouses occupy public offices, to play active roles in service and leadership.

Senator Tinubu further urged Nigerians to drop an “entitlement” mentality and stressed the need to mentor young people.

Speaking at the event, a Director at the National Open University of Nigeria, Prof. Ganiyat Adejoke Adesina-Uthman, addressed the issue of trust in public office while speaking on the topic, “Serving with Excellence, Compassion and Integrity in Public Life.” She emphasised that integrity is essential in public service.
