Over 150 golfers gathered at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf and Country Club (TYB-IGRCC) in Abuja for the TYB Ladies Section Weekly Kitty tournament.

The event, held under the motto “TYB Ladies, Strength in Unity… Come Let’s Swing to Camaraderie,” successfully promoted camaraderie and healthy competition among female golfers, veterans, and dignitaries.

In a proactive measure, the club, in collaboration with EHA Clinics, offered free medical checks to participants before the game. Medical personnel were on hand to monitor blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, and oxygen saturation levels (SpO²).

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ceremonial tee-off was conducted by Dr Lami Onayi Ahmed, President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), alongside Mrs Helen Mark and other distinguished guests.

Dr Ahmed praised the organisers for their commitment to promoting women’s golf while prioritising players’ health and well-being. “Golf is not only about competition but also wellness, friendship, and discipline. Events like this strengthen unity among women golfers and encourage healthy living,” she remarked. She also congratulated the newly inaugurated Lady Captain of TYB-IGRCC, Jumai Adamu, for orchestrating the successful event.

Jumai Adamu, the Lady Captain, expressed her delight at the impressive turnout for her debut Thursday Weekly Kitty. She described it as the largest kitty event ever recorded by the ladies’ section, acknowledging the presence of the LGAN President and other dignitaries. Adamu also highlighted her administration’s swift progress, including the refurbishment of the ladies’ section toilet facilities and the donation of two large canopies, which will serve dual purposes for events and revenue generation.

Mrs Helen Mark commended the organisers for fostering friendship, sportsmanship, and women’s empowerment through golf. Barr. Zainab Ibrahim Bio, Interim Vice Lady Captain of TYB-IGRCC, noted that the event underscored the club’s commitment to inclusivity, allowing both experienced and new golfers to engage and enjoy the game.

Dr Ali Peters, Vice Captain of TYB-IGRCC, described the turnout as encouraging for the growth of golf, while Dame Julie Donli, OON, immediate past Lady Captain of IBB International Golf and Country Club, saw it as a strong show of support for the new Lady Captain.

Attendees also lauded the inclusion of health checks. Dr Sewuese Bitto, a TYB Golf Club member, praised the organisers for prioritising players’ health, particularly for older golfers. Ursula Wada, a super veteran golfer, found the tournament inspiring, stating, “At my age, events like this keep us active and connected with friends.”

Mrs Maryam Shehu, an AACT Ambassador, and Lizzy Asomugha, a former Lady Captain and Rotary President, both commended Lady Captain Adamu for her strong start and vision for the ladies’ section. Asomugha emphasised that such events are crucial for strengthening friendships and enhancing the competitive standard of female golfers.

The weekly kitty concluded with friendly interactions, reinforcing the strong sense of unity and camaraderie within the TYB Ladies Section.
