The Emir of Borgu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr. Barrister Mohammed Sani Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, CFR (Mai Borgu), has been appointed an International Ambassador of the International Human Rights Protection Service (Forum), USA.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter by the Special Envoy for West Africa of the International Human Rights Protection Service (Forum), USA, Ambassador Dr. Charles O. Mini.
According to the envoy, the Emir was appointed in recognition of his notable role in supporting and promoting sustainable peace in Nigeria.
The letter stated that the Emir’s reputation as a lover of peace attracted the attention of the organisation, particularly his efforts in promoting human rights.
The special envoy noted that the board of the International Human Rights Protection Service (Forum), USA, and its regional office in West Africa had been notified and had accepted the Emir’s nomination.
He said he was directed to officially convey the decision of the board of the International Human Rights Protection Service (Forum), USA, on the conferment of the title of Human Rights International Ambassador on the Emir.
The appointment also recognised the royal father’s institutional leadership, selfless service, and commitment to promoting peace, harmony and tolerance in his domain.
It further acknowledged his valuable contributions towards the protection and promotion of human rights, equity and social justice.
The organisation described the International Ambassador recognition as a distinction reserved for personalities whose lives exemplify dedication to promoting human dignity, fairness, equity and social justice.
The presentation and decoration are scheduled to hold on a date to be agreed upon by the organisation and the Borgu Emirate Council.
Some of the responsibilities of the International Ambassador include representing the International Human Rights Protection Service (Forum), USA, at international forums, conferences and events, advocating for human rights with governments, international organisations and civil society groups, and raising awareness of human rights issues.
