LP State Executives’ Status Clarified After INEC Concerns – Asogwa

The leadership of Labour Party said the concerns expressed by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the status of the party’s state executives have been resolved.
The senior special assistant on media to the party’s Interim national chairman, Ken Asogwa, stated this in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja.
Asogwa said that INEC had drawn the party’s attention to an earlier letter notifying it of the party’s intention to dissolve the Interim State Working Committees appointed in December 2025.
This, he said, followed conflicts and contestation with the parallel state executives purportedly elected in December 2025 by a faction of the party which, according to him, lacked the legitimacy to do so.
“Following the communication from INEC, the leadership of the party has, in full compliance with the party’s Constitution, the Electoral Act and the relevant INEC guidelines, taken all the necessary steps to conclusively address the concerns raised by the commission.
“Ordinarily, the party chose to ignore the beer-parlour gossip being peddled by some discredited former members of the party concerning the said letter by INEC.
“However, in view of the numerous inquiries from party members across the federation and other stakeholders seeking clarification on the true position of affairs, we consider it necessary to issue this statement,” he said.
Asogwa called on members of the public and supporters across the country to continue to participate actively in the party’s ongoing membership revalidation and new registration exercise.
He also encouraged members to prepare for the forthcoming congresses and national convention of the party.
“The Labour Party, under the able leadership of Sen. Nenadi Usman, wishes to reassure its members that the current leadership remains focused, on course and will not be distracted by the fringe activities of a few discredited individuals,” he said.
