Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has reiterated the critical roles of women in nation-building as he celebrates women on the 2026 International Women’s Day.
While recognising the efforts of women in national cohesion, the governor maintained that women are special and unique right from creation, and ” their importance to society can never be overlooked or overemphasised”.
He lauded the resilience, perseverance, compassion, love, innovation, and nurturing nature of women, saying that “these and other qualities have made them invaluable to families in particular and the society in general”.
He said that as a women-friendly governor who also believed in inclusive government, his administration has been deliberate in ensuring women have fair representation; hence, the 25 local government council chairmen in the state have females as their vice, and a good number of women have been given political appointments.
The governor further stated that numerous empowerment schemes have been executed by his administration and assured that more were in the offing to make women self-reliant and boost their confidence in society.
He therefore congratulated women, the world over on the occasion of their International Day and enjoined them to remain focused and more dedicated to the spiritual, moral, and social upbringing of children for a better society.
Meanwhile LEADERSHIP observed that the day was not marked in the state with any special occasion even as the state was signatories to several women affirmative action in Nigeria.
