Prominent Islamic scholars have commended the governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, for what they described as his compassionate and people-centred leadership style.
The clerics gave the commendation during a Ramadan Tafsir session in Abuja, where they highlighted the governor’s policies and interventions aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.
Speaking at the event, the Secretary-General of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) Nigeria, Kabiru Haruna Gombe, described the governor as a visionary leader whose actions have positively impacted the people of the state.
“In the front ranks of leaders Allah has blessed us with is the Governor of Kebbi State, Dr Nasiru Idris, Kauran Gwandu. I am not saying he is the best of all, but he is among the very best,” Sheikh Gombe said.
The cleric cited the governor’s swift personal intervention during a fire outbreak at a Qur’anic memorisation school in Birnin Kebbi, noting that Idris reportedly rushed to the scene and coordinated emergency response efforts.
According to him, the governor personally ensured the deployment of government vehicles to support rescue operations and assist affected students.
“He stood there himself and made direct calls to Government House. Vehicles were immediately dispatched and the children were rescued. This reflects compassion and responsible leadership,” he said.
Sheikh Gombe also commended the governor’s intervention in securing Kebbi State’s Hajj slots, explaining that the state government stepped in to pay for seats allocated to the state in order to prevent intending pilgrims from losing the opportunity due to new payment deadlines introduced by authorities in Saudi Arabia.
He added that the governor demonstrated sensitivity to the financial realities of citizens by allowing pilgrims to complete their payments gradually despite the new one-off payment structure.
The cleric further appealed to the governor to support the rebuilding of the burnt Islamiyya school, stressing that Qur’anic education plays a vital role in moral development and societal stability.
Similarly, the deputy chairman of the Council of Ulama at the national headquarters of JIBWIS in Jos, Dalhatu Abubakar Abdullahi Kantana, described Governor Idris as one of the few leaders genuinely concerned about the welfare and development of his people.
“One of the governors who truly cares about his people is the Governor of Kebbi State, Dr Nasiru Idris, Kauran Gwandu,” he said.
Sheikh Kantana also commended the governor’s proactive approach to security in Kebbi State, noting that sustained security efforts remain crucial to social stability and development.
He urged citizens to continue supporting the governor with prayers, emphasising that leaders with sincere intentions deserve public support regardless of personal affiliations.
“Leaders like this, whether we have personal ties with them or not, we must pray for them and ask Allah to help them succeed,” he added.
