Appeal Court Upholds Suspension Of Anyanwu, Three Other PDP National Officers

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Monday upheld the suspension of four national officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the party’s former National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

Also affected by the ruling are the PDP National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade; Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; and National Organising Secretary, Umaru Bature.

In its judgment on Monday , the appellate court affirmed the earlier decision of the Federal High Court delivered by Justice James Omotosho, which validated the disciplinary action taken against the officials by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

The NWC had on November 1, 2025, announced the suspension of the four national officers over alleged infractions and actions considered inconsistent with the provisions of the PDP constitution.

The Court of Appeal held that the suspension carried out by the party leadership was in line with the party’s internal disciplinary processes and could not be invalidated by the appellants.

The appellate court also upheld the October 31, 2025 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the outcome of the PDP’s 2025 National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Justice Omotosho had ruled that the convention was conducted in violation of statutory provisions, particularly regarding compliance with procedural requirements and notification to the electoral body.

The suit challenging the convention was filed by aggrieved members of the party who argued that the processes leading to the convention did not comply with the Electoral Act and the PDP constitution.

With the latest judgment of the Court of Appeal, the suspension of Anyanwu and the other national officers remains valid, while the legality of the Ibadan convention continues to face judicial obstacles.

The ruling is expected to further shape the ongoing leadership dispute within the PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, as stakeholders continue efforts to resolve the internal crisis ahead of future political activities.
