Being An Independent Artist Cannot Deter Me

Many talented artists have come and gone like the wind, primarily because there was no wind beneath their sails to journey down the music waters because they have no record labels pulling their strings. But for US-based Nigerian artist known as Donblaqwifi, born Sunday Gabaghi Agbede, there is no stopping him just as he has already left his imprints on the musical scene.

While noting going it alone in the music business is a big yoke to bear, the Ondo State native says he is ready to make all the sacrifices to have his name written among the greats of his generation.

“Life in general to me is an empty book that we live to write our daily stories. But life as an independent artist is very difficult to manage as it affects an artist’s growth rate to be successful. So much hardship is involved as an independent artist, time management, making great music, music promotion and most important is capital are among the challenges you have to surmount,” he said.

“I have a lot of pressure which oftentimes has led to my making wrong decisions. I believe if I have a record label,all that will be in control and I will just be focusing on writing and making good music. However, I thank God for the journey so far as I have been able to push my music beyond boundaries and share the musical stage with some of the biggest names in the industry,” he added.

Donblaqwifi noted that new generation of superstar singers like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Kizz Daniel, Centino Simon (Kakaya) have profoundly shaped his musical orientation and identity just as 2Face, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson and others kindled his musical interest.

“ All these great artists actually shaped my music vision and also made me believe that music is the only universal language that is accepted all over the world,” he noted.

Donblaqwifi is also a songwriter and record producer. He was born in Lagos, Nigeria and started music as a rap artist before switching to singing out of which he has made a good name for himself.

Donblaqwifi, who currently lives in the United States has performed in different events in the United States of America.

He rose to fame after releasing “Go down “, the first single from his debut studio album titled “Confirm” in 2015 .

Between 2015 and 2018 he released a number of hit singles and also released a duo album titled “Distance” with Centino Simon.

In January 2019 he released a 10-track EP “Confirm” with singles like “Tule “, “Carry body Ft Kelly hansome”, “Jeje Ft. Djeverla$t “Kenemamu”, “Ayobami” , “Summer Ft. Kentto”, “One time Ft. VavoonJ” ETC.

In 2017 he won the Best New England Artist Award. He was also nominated for the Boston Mega Award in 2020.
