Ekiti, Others Urged To Harness Huge Potential In Agric Sector

A prominent traditional ruler and Ologotun of Ogotun -Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Adesanmi, has urged government and private organisations to tap into huge potential in the state’s agricultural sector to boost its economic prosperity.

Oba Adesanmi who explained that the agricultural potential, which spread across the state including 24 villages, farm settlements and camps in Ogotun Ekiti can add value to the economy of the state if properly harnessed.

He spoke in Ogotun Ekiti, in Ekiti Southwest local government area of the state at the weekend during his coronation ceremony, where prominent Nigerians including were conferred with chieftaincy titles.

The first class monarch who identified insecurity and bad roads as part of the factors militating against the development of border towns in the state appealed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji to take proactive measures to address the situations for the safety and economic prosperity of the state.

Oba Adesanmi decried the recurrent cases of kidnapping and killings and the burden of bad roads and lack of other public utilities in most of the Ekiti communities sharing borders with neighbouring states.

Those honoured included, Senator Biodun Olujimi, A House of Representatives member, Hon Yemi Adaramodu, a veteran journalist, Mr. Femi Ige, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr Tunde Ogunsakin, an APC Chief, Demola Popoola, among others.

 

The monarch pleaded with Governor Oyebanji to secure the town, which shares a border with Ikeji and Owena in Osun State, to boost agriculture, where the town has a comparative advantage, to turn around the fortunes of his subjects.

 

On the peaceful selection process leading to his emergence,  after the demise of the late Oba Samuel Oyebade, Oba Adesanmi,  he said; “Let me thank the Ekiti State Government under Governor Kayode Fayemi and his deputy, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi for ratifying my selection as the 32nd Ologotun.

 

“I now call on Governor Oyebanji to beam the searchlight of security and development on my community. We share boundaries with Owena and Ikeji-Ile in Osun State. Unfortunately, the roads linking us with these communities are in terrible conditions. The road linking us to Ipole Iloro is impassable as we speak, likewise the one to Ikogosi.’’
