The Oyo State Police Command has declared that it will be firm, fair, and consistent in ridding the state off cultism and other social vices.

The state Police commissioner, represented by the deputy commissioner of Police (Admin), Abiodun Onuoha while speaking at the launch of the state chapter of Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) in Ibadan on Friday, said “we are gathered here today because we recognize a shadow that has been trying to dim the light of our youth.

”Let’s be honest, the allure of “belonging” or the promise of “protection” is often how cultism begins. But we know the reality is far different because what starts as a secret handshake ends in fear and intimidation that replaces peace with constant anxiety.

”Brilliant minds have been traded for violence and regret, thereby leading to wasted potentials while many parents have lost their children to cycles of senseless conflict as a result of cult clashes.

”Beyond cultism, we are also addressing the “other vices” such as drug abuse, cybercrime, harassment, thuggery, theft and other related criminal activities that are eroding the foundation of our character and our community.

According to him, there must be consequences for actions, but also paths for those who wish to renounce and reform.

“As we all know that education is meant to be a tool for liberation, not a path to bondage. Therefore, we are launching this campaign because silence is consent and by speaking out, we strip these groups of their power.

“Safety is a right and every student and citizen deserves to walk around without looking over their shoulder.

“The future matters, therefore we are set to let our children and society general understand that to become leaders, innovators, and creators, they must stay away from cultism and other vices.

“This campaign is not just about posters and speeches; it’s about a shift in culture to see that our students / children choose their circles wisely, a solid reminder to them that true power does not come from weapons or secret oaths but from excellence, integrity, and your ability to lift others up.

”To the parents and mentors, let us stay engaged, listen to the unspoken words of your children, constantly monitor and be the safe harbor your children need.

“As we officially launch this campaign to move around Schools, Worship centers, and the community at large, I have provided Note books, Biro and School bags for donation to any school the team will be visiting.

“Let us remember that a house divided by fear cannot stand, but a community united by purpose is unstoppable. Let us choose books over blades. Let us choose progress over peer pressure. Let us choose life.”
