Members of the Shiite Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) on Friday staged a peaceful procession in some parts of Gombe metropolis in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The procession is part of calls taking place globally to observe International Quds Day, during which mostly Shiite groups across the world march in solidarity with Palestinians.

The march in Gombe, led by prominent cleric Muhammad Adamu Abbari, saw participants, including men, women and youths move in formations while chanting messages of support for Palestinians and condemning ongoing violence in Gaza.

Members of the movement, largely followers of Ibrahim Yaqoub El‑Zakzaky, said the procession was part of their continued advocacy for justice and humanitarian support for Palestinians, whom they described as victims of prolonged conflict in the Middle East.

One of the participants, Abubakar Ibrahim, said the procession remained orderly as the protesters carried banners and placards expressing solidarity with Palestine.

LEADERSHIP learns that this is coming barely two weeks after a similar protest erupted in Gombe and several other cities in the North, condemning what they described as attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel.

The protesters noted that Shiite processions supporting Palestine are not new in Nigeria, stressing that the movement regularly holds peaceful demonstrations in solidarity with Palestinians.
