The newly sworn-in Minister of State for Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, has pledged to prioritise stronger revenue mobilisation and fiscal discipline as part of efforts to improve Nigeria’s public finance management and drive sustainable economic development.
The finance minister made the commitment on Monday evening in a message posted on his X handle shortly after taking the oath of office as Minister of State for Finance of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Oyedele said his focus in the new role would be to support initiatives aimed at strengthening government revenue, improving fiscal management, and ensuring that public resources translate into tangible benefits for Nigerians. “In my new role, I will focus on supporting efforts to strengthen revenue mobilisation, promote fiscal discipline, and ensure that public resources translate into real improvements in the lives of Nigerians,” he stated.
The minister described his appointment as a call to greater national service at a time when the country faces significant fiscal challenges but also possesses strong opportunities for economic growth.
According to him, decisions taken in the management of public finance today will have far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s long-term prosperity and stability.
Oyedele expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him, as well as to the Senate of Nigeria for confirming his nomination.
He also pledged to work closely with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, as well as other government officials and stakeholders to advance the administration’s economic agenda.
“I look forward to working closely with the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, colleagues across government, the National Assembly, private sector, and development partners to advance the mission of financing Nigeria for sustainable development,” he said.
Oyedele further stressed that public service requires integrity, humility, and dedication, noting that he was assuming the new responsibility with a strong sense of duty to the Nigerian people.
He said the government’s fiscal reforms are expected to strengthen the country’s economic foundation and improve the efficiency with which public resources are deployed for national development.
The appointment places Oyedele in a key role within the Federal Ministry of Finance, where he will support ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing revenue generation, improving fiscal transparency, and strengthening Nigeria’s macroeconomic stability.
His assumption of office comes at a time when the federal government is pursuing a range of fiscal and economic reforms designed to boost public revenue, improve budget efficiency, and support sustainable development.
