Vatican Unveils Timetable & Logos of African Countries Pope Leo XIV Will Visit In April

The Vatican City has unveiled the logos and timetable of Pope Leo XIV’s trip to Africa, from April 13 to 23, 2026.

The trip includes visits to four African countries, Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea, where he would spend two days in each country, delivering 6 greetings, 10 addresses, and 8 homilies across 11 days and 11 cities.

 

Algeria – April 13 to 15

His trip begins in Algeria, where he will visit the Maqam Echahit Martyrs’ Monument in Algiers on April 13. There he will pronounce a greeting.

From there, he will visit the Presidential Palace to meet with the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, followed by an address to the authorities, representatives of civil society, and members of the diplomatic corps at the Djamaa el Djazair Conference Centre.

He will also visit the Great Mosque of Algiers, one of the biggest in the world, that can hold 120,000 faithful, at once; Participate in a private visit to the Welcome and Friendship Center of the Augustinian Missionary Sisters, in the city of Bab El Oued, and close the day with an address to the Algerian community in the Basilica of Our Lady of Africa in Algiers.

Day 2, April 14, will see the papal travel to the northeastern port of Annaba, developed from the ancient city of Hippo, home to St Augustine. He will visit the archaeological site of Hippo and then the nursing home of the Little Sisters of the Poor to greet the residents.

Then, finally, have a private meeting with members of the Augustinian Order at the Augustinian Community House, and celebrate Mass at the Basilica of St Augustine, before taking a flight back to Algiers.

 

Cameroon – April 15 to 18

On his arrival in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on April 15, the Pope will visit Cameroonian President Paul Barthelemy Biya at the Presidential Palace, followed by an address to Cameroonian authorities, civil society representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps at the Congress Centre.

On the same day, he will visit and speak with the residents and workers of the Ngul Zamba Orphanage before meeting privately with the Cameroonian Bishops at the Episcopal Conference headquarters.

On April 16, he will travel to the northwestern city of Bamenda to address and participate in a meeting for peace with the local community at St Joseph’s Cathedral, celebrate Holy Mass at the Bamenda International Airport, and return to Yaoundé.

Back in Yaoundé, he will visit the coastal town of Douala to celebrate Holy Mass at the Japoma Stadium, then go to St Paul Catholic Hospital, and then back to Yaoundé. There, he will meet with and address the students and professors at the Catholic University of Central Africa.

He will celebrate Holy Mass at the Yaoundé-Ville Airport on April 18, before departing for Angola the same day.

 

Angola – April 18 to 21

Upon landing in Luanda, the capital city of Angola, on April 18, the Pope will stop by the Presidential Palace to visit with President Joao Lourenco and meet with the authorities, civil societies, and diplomatic corps, before meeting with the Angolan Bishops.

On the 19th, he will celebrate Holy Mass in the nearby city of Kilamba, before proceeding to the town of Muxima to visit the Marian Shrine ‘Mama Muxima’ to pray the rosary and address the people there.

On April 20, he will go to the northeastern town of Saurimo to visit a nursing home, to greet those present, and celebrate Holy Mass at the Saurimo esplanade. He will return to Luanda to address bishops, priests, and consecrated men and women, and pastoral workers at the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima.

 

Equatorial Guinea – April 21 to 23

At the final leg of his African tour, he will stop in Equatorial Guinea, where he will disembark in the capital city of Malabo on April 21.

He will kick off the trip with a visit to President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, then address the authorities, representatives of civil society, and members of the diplomatic corps at the Presidential Palace.

After that, the Pope will meet with cultural representatives at the Leon XIV Campus of the University to give an address, then visit the staff and patients of the Jean Pierre Olie Psychiatric Hospital to greet the residents, before hosting a private meeting with the Bishops of Equatorial Guinea.

On April 22, the Pope will take three flights, first to the town of Mongomo on the eastern border to celebrate the Holy Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, then visit the Pope Francis School of Technology, before departing for the port city of Bata.

In Bata, he will visit residents at the prison before heading to the Memorial to see the victims of the March 7, 2021, explosions at a military base, which led to the deaths of over 100 people and 500 people injured, and share a moment of prayer.

Next, he will meet with and address the youths and families at the Bata stadium, before flying back to Malabo. On the last day, April 23, Pope Leo will celebrate Holy Mass at the Malabo stadium before boarding his flight back to Rome.
