Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, according to the country’s judiciary, marking the latest escalation in Tehran’s crackdown on alleged espionage activities.
Iranian judicial authorities identified the man as Kourosh Keyvani, saying he was found guilty of supplying sensitive information and images of important locations inside Iran to Israeli intelligence. The execution was carried out after the country’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence, state-linked media reported.
Officials said Keyvani had been arrested during heightened tensions linked to regional conflict and was accused of cooperating with Mossad by transmitting classified security information. Iranian authorities described the case as part of ongoing efforts to counter foreign intelligence operations inside the country.
The execution comes amid an intensifying shadow conflict between Iran and Israel, during which Tehran has repeatedly accused Israeli intelligence of sabotage operations, assassinations and espionage within its borders. Iran has executed several individuals in recent years on similar charges.
The case also unfolds against a backdrop of rising regional tensions and security crackdowns following recent military confrontations involving Iran and its adversaries, with authorities signalling a tougher stance against alleged collaborators.
Iran frequently announces arrests and prosecutions of suspected spies, while human rights groups have previously raised concerns about due process and transparency in espionage-related trials — claims Iranian officials reject.
