A youth political group, City Boy Movement (CBM) has expressed its willingness to deliver 500 thousand votes to governor Biodun Oyebanji and President Bola Tinubu in the June 20 governorship and 2027 presidential elections respectively.

The Director of the Movement in Ekiti State, Asiwaju Kasali Oluwafemi, said the group’s decision was based on the achievements of both the President and the governor in the state and in the entire country.

Oluwafemi, who spoke during the inauguration of CBM coordinators in 11 wards and 135 units of Ikere Ekiti local government area of the state, said the event marks the formal flag-off of the movement’s street to street engagement designed to galvanise support for the president and the governor.

The move, which he said is also aimed at strengthening grassroots political structure of the body across Ekiti State ahead of the polls, was also part of a coordinated drive to deepen community engagement and mobilise voters ahead of the polls.

Acknowledging the movement’s growing influence in youth-driven politics, he explained further that a Unit leader, supported by a Secretary, Women Leader, Youth Leader and Public Relations Officer, alongside 10 canvassers in each of the 135 are to coordinate voter mobilisation and community engagement in the area.

Disclosing that the movement is open to members between the ages of 18 and 50, he said, “CBM is committed to supporting the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and strengthening the electoral fortunes of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, targeting over 500,000 votes.

“The movement’s national objective is also to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu. In 2023, President Tinubu had a little over 200,000 votes in Ekiti, but the target for 2027 to add up 300,000 votes to the last figure to deliver nothing less than votes for the re-election of President Tinubu.

“This we will achieve by encouraging first-time voters and young people to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in elections”.

In his remarks, Hon. Victor Adeniyi, who represented the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, commended CBM initiative, saying the unit-to-ward structure is a strong platform for effective grassroots mobilisation.
