Lagos State deputy governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has urged the state’s civil servants to be honest, caring and to understand their roles and the administrative tenacity required of a public servant.
He gave the advice at the 60th birthday and Retirement Thanksgiving Service of the permanent secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Mobolaji Mojisola Daba, held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa-Ikeja.He described the retiree as an embodiment of honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
In his words, “You need to be very busy. You should be honest, caring, fair, and understand your role. You need to understand the system, the service, the protocol, and the administrative tenacities of being a public servant.”
Speaking further, Hamzat stated that the retired Permanent Secretary remains a shining example to active civil servants, adding that she is a woman of integrity committed to her duties.
“She is a very good person. She cares about everybody that she works with. She’s a very intelligent person. She takes her job seriously. She’s very humble. She is also very honest. She is a woman of integrity. When she says yes, it is a yes. I will miss her, but I will still relate to her,” said the Deputy Governor.
He noted that the Lagos State Public Service is one of the best public services in the world, adding that the service is composed of organised, disciplined, and dedicated civil servants who remain committed to professionalism, integrity, and the effective delivery of government policies and programmes for the benefit of the people.
He emphasised that their unwavering commitment, institutional knowledge, and passion for service continue to drive the progress and development of Lagos State.
In his remarks, the Head of Service, Mr Olabode Agoro, described the celebrant as a people-centric and compassionate individual who showed motherly love and care to everyone she encountered in the state public service.
According to him, “As an administrator and human resource professional, she exhibited utmost discipline, undiluted dedication, unwavering commitment, and uncommon courage to navigate the complexities of the state public service. The result of which led to her appointment as the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor.”
In her response, the retiree, Mrs Mobolaji Mojisola Daba, expressed gratitude to God for the grace and privilege of a fulfilling career in the public service. She urged civil servants to always remain at the top of their game, stressing the need to be knowledgeable, proactive, and fully understand the purpose and responsibilities of the public service, which is ultimately centred on serving the people.
