2027: Wike Urges Abuja Residents To Back Tinubu, Cites Projects

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on Abuja residents to continue supporting and praying for President Bola Tinubu, assuring them that the President is committed to improving their living conditions through strategic infrastructure development.

During an inspection tour of road projects in the Kubwa and Bwari areas on Wednesday, Wike was surrounded by enthusiastic villagers who came out to greet him.

Addressing the crowd, the minister emphasized that the ongoing construction, particularly in satellite towns, is a testament to President Tinubu’s focus on people-oriented governance.

“The President’s main interest is for the people to be happy. Keep ensuring you pray for him so that he will continue to do more for the country,” he said.

Speaking to journalists later in Abuja after inspecting several projects across the satellite towns, Wike expressed confidence in the president’s political fortunes in the FCT.

He pointed to the massive infrastructure development under the current administration as the reason for the growing goodwill among the electorate.

Wike boldly declared that it would be nearly impossible for the opposition to unseat Tinubu in the territory come 2027.

“It is very difficult for anybody to win an election in the FCT against Mr. President. Because to them, it is surprising what they have seen in their lives,” he said.

The minister attributed this support to a deliberate policy shift to decongest the city centre.

“We were told clearly that there is over-concentration of development in the city, and we must go to the satellite towns. These communities are part of Abuja, and their lives must also change,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work on major corridors in Karu, Apo-Karshi, and the Bwari-Kubwa road, noting that for many residents, this is their first time experiencing such government intervention.

“When I went to these areas, you could see that people had never witnessed this kind of infrastructure before. Now, economic activities will improve, and their lives will change,” he said.

The minister highlighted the practical impact of the projects, noting that improved roads would drastically cut travel time.

“People can now live in places like Kuje and get to work in the city within 25 minutes. That is the kind of impact we are talking about,” he stated, adding that some of the roads would be commissioned to mark the President’s upcoming anniversary in office.

On the subject of problematic real estate developers, Wike dismissed calls for a new regulatory body, arguing that existing agencies are sufficient if properly utilised.

“The problem in Nigeria is the proliferation of agencies. Creating more agencies will not solve the problem,” he said.

He insisted that the Department of Development Control has the mandate to enforce the Abuja Master Plan. “What is important is to strengthen existing structures.

“The FCT Administration can handle complaints and ensure that developers do not exploit innocent citizens. If there are complaints, we know what to do. We will ensure that the right thing is done,” he said.

Wike concluded by calling for unity and cooperation with the government, framing the current efforts as part of a broader national project focused on security and economic growth.

He also extended warm wishes, saying, “I wish everyone a happy Ramadan.”
