A group, Arewa Think Tank, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to the United Kingdom (UK) will bring economic and diplomatic benefits to Nigeria.
Its convener, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, in an assessment of Tinubu’s engagements during the high-profile visit, said one of the major takeaways was the renewed push to deepen economic cooperation between Nigeria and the UK through the Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership (ETIP).
He said the initiative was expected to boost bilateral trade and unlock investments in critical sectors such as energy, agriculture, and infrastructure.
According to him, the visit also holds historic significance as the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in nearly four decades, a development he said underscored Nigeria’s growing global relevance and influence.
On security, Yakubu said the discussions during the visit focused on strengthening collaboration between both countries to address regional instability, with the UK expressing support for Nigeria’s ongoing efforts.
He said King Charles III commended Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms, describing the country as an economic powerhouse and a strong cultural force on the global stage.
Yakubu said the recognition reflects increasing international confidence in Nigeria’s policy direction.
In a press statement yesterday, the Arewa Think Tank convener, pointed to renewed commitment to strengthening the Commonwealth of Nations, noting that both countries explored ways to expand trade within the bloc for mutual benefit.
