The Borno State Police Command has announced a restriction on tricycle movement across the state from 6am to 12pm on Friday as part of measures to ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the police public relations officer, Nahum Daso, said the directive is aimed at enhancing security coordination, managing crowds, and preventing potential threats during the festivities.

He advised residents to observe Eid prayers at locations closest to their homes to minimise movement and reduce congestion at major prayer grounds.

According to the command, a comprehensive security plan has been put in place, with personnel deployed to Eid grounds, markets, motor parks, and other vulnerable locations for surveillance, traffic control, and crowd management.

Daso added that operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit have been stationed at strategic points to screen individuals and items entering designated venues.

He noted that the commissioner of police, Naziru Abdulmajid, has directed officers to intensify patrols, intelligence-led operations, and visibility policing throughout the festive period while maintaining professionalism.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly, and celebrate responsibly, while parents were advised to closely monitor their children in crowded areas.

The command also reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the celebrations, particularly following recent security incidents in Maiduguri.
