The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper in Akwanga Local Government Area, recovering an AK-49 rifle and ammunition in a major breakthrough against criminality.
SP Ramhan Nansel, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed in a statement on Saturday in Lafia that the arrest followed credible intelligence about the suspect’s possession of a firearm.
According to Nansel, the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 38 Akwanga Unit was alerted on Friday, March 20, around 5:00 p.m. and promptly deployed to apprehend the 32-year-old suspect.
“The suspect, from Rugan Hassan in Adudu Community of Awe LGA, was arrested, and a search led to the recovery of one AK-49 rifle along with four rounds of live 7.56mm ammunition,” Nansel said.
The suspect and recovered items have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation. The police said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network.
On behalf of Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, Nansel reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding residents and urged the public to provide timely and credible information to support security operations.
