Governor Bala Mohammed has declared that forests across Bauchi State are now free of bandits, following sustained military operations that pushed criminal elements out of their enclaves, particularly in the troubled Alkaleri axis.
The governor stated this yesterday during the Eid-el-Fitr Durbar held at Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu Square, Bauchi.
The governor asserted against the backdrop of recent waves of attacks on communities such as Mansur and Gwana in Alkaleri local government area, which had sparked fears among residents and heightened security concerns, coordinated interventions by security forces, led by the Nigerian military, have successfully dislodged bandits from their hideouts within the state, forcing them to retreat beyond Bauchi’s borders.
“Today, I can confidently say that there are no bandits harbouring in any forest in Bauchi State. Our forests have been cleared through decisive military action and improved intelligence gathering,” the governor said.
Mohammed commended the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for their bravery and commitment in restoring peace, especially in Alkaleri and the surrounding communities that had recently come under attack.
While urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information, Mohammed reaffirmed his government’s resolve to consolidate the gains achieved and maintain Bauchi’s status as one of the most peaceful states in the country.
Also, Governor Mohammed has appealed for forgiveness from the people of Bauchi State as his eight-year tenure approaches its end on May 29 next year.
Mohammed noted that leadership comes with human shortcomings, stressing that asking for forgiveness is both a moral and spiritual obligation. “As my tenure gradually comes to an end, I find it necessary to seek your forgiveness for any wrongs, knowing fully that no human is perfect,” he said.
He assured residents that his administration would not slowdown in delivering impactful projects, particularly in healthcare, education, road construction and other critical sectors aimed at boosting the state’s growth and development.
The governor also commended the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu, for his steadfast commitment to the socio-economic advancement of the state, describing him as a “true development strategist.”
Mohammed reaffirmed his government’s commitment to sustaining a cordial relationship with traditional institutions, noting that such collaboration remains key to maintaining peace, security and social cohesion.
He further appreciated traditional and community leaders for their roles in conflict prevention and resolution, which, according to him, have helped Bauchi maintain its reputation as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. He added that his administration would continue to support security agencies to consolidate the gains recorded in safeguarding lives and property.
Earlier, the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu, commended the state government for sustaining peace and promoting development across communities, particularly through investments in infrastructure and social services. He urged citizens to continue supporting government policies and to uphold the values of unity, tolerance and mutual respect.
The monarch also called on leaders at all levels to prioritise justice and fairness in governance, stressing that enduring peace can only thrive where equity prevails. He reminded the people of the need to sustain the lessons of Ramadan by promoting compassion, discipline and peaceful coexistence in their daily lives.
