Senator Ali Ndume has appealed to the North East Development Commission (NEDC), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and humanitarian organisations to assist the over 3,000 persons displaced by the recent Boko Haram attack on Ngoshe community in Gwoza local government area.

Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, said the victims required urgent attention and called on them not to be discouraged by the ugly incident The lawmaker spoke yesterday when he visited the Ngoshe IDPs in Pulka where they fled to after the terrorists attacked their community and killed scores of civilians and soldiers. The insurgents also abducted over 100 persons, mostly women and children.

The senator who has spent two days in Gwoza engaging stakeholders and community members, assured the IDPs and Gwoza residents that what occurred in 2014, when Boko Haram terrorists invaded the town and declared it a caliphate before it was liberated by the military, would never occur again.

He commended the Nigerian military for their success in Malam Fatori where they collaborated and responded immediately which led to the killing of 80 terrorists and three of their commanders.

Ndume also commended President Bola Tinubu for enforcing the state of emergency he declared on insecurity, which is yielding results.

He equally praised the Borno State governor, Babagana Umar Zulum, for visiting the Ngoshe IDPs twice after the attack with relief items despite the fact that it was not only Ngoshe and Pulka that were recently attacked by the terrorists, but Kukawa, Malam Fatori, Marten among others.

“I have come to commiserate with the Ngoshe IDPs. Besides in each Ramadan, I usually come down to Gwoza to celebrate with the people. I have come home to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr with the IDPs and the people of Gwoza.

“After visiting the Ngoshe IDPs at Pukka with relief items, I went to Wala, Warabe and Gwoza and spent the night engaging stakeholders and various groups.

“We had the opportunity of meeting the governor who was here to sympathise with the people and encouraged them to be resilient. And we are highly honoured today because he did not come empty, but came with relief materials,” Ndume said.
