Nigerian singer, songwriter and dancer Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma, alias Qing Madi, has said that music money is not normal, noting how lucrative the industry is.
She referred to the revenue as drug money. The artiste said this while chatting on the Tea with Tay podcast. Qing Madi elaborated on the matter, saying an artiste can generate as much as N20 million from one show, comparing the income to that of people who work from 9 am to 5 pm. She pointed out the massive gap between the two streams of income.
She notes, “Music money is not normal, it is like drug money. I don’t think people know how… And I’m not the person who would buy stuff and put on the media because I do think that that would change the narrative of what I am to the media.”
She admitted the industry has made her financially independent, while the average Nigerian works the regular 9 to 5 and may take home about N500,000 at the end of the month.
“While as an artist, you do one show and get N20 million. Music money is huge,” she remarked.
