‘No Way I Could Say No’ – Fernandez Relishes Super Eagles Call-Up

New Super Eagles invitee Emmanuel Fernandez has described his maiden call-up to the senior national team as an opportunity he simply could not refuse, as he prepares for a potential international debut.

The Rangers centre-back was named in Nigeria’s 23-man squad by head coach Éric Chelle ahead of upcoming international friendlies against Iran and Jordan, largely due to his impressive form for the Scotish side following his move from Peterborough United, where he spent the final six months of his stay there on loan to Barnet.

Head coach of the Nigerian team Eric Chelle was sufficiently impressed with the 24 year old who aside from his primary role as a defender, has also weigh in with his own fair share of goals. He has five goals this season.

Eligible for England, he said there was no hesitation on his part when the call came through for him to be a part of the senior national team of Nigeria for the upcoming friendly tournament.

Speaking to Rangers Review, Fernandez expressed pride and determination to seize the moment.

“When the call came, there was no way I could turn it down,” he said. “To represent a great football nation like Nigeria is a huge honour. The aim now is to go in, work hard, and make my mark.”

The friendlies present a valuable platform for the defender to stake his claim as Nigeria begin reshaping the squad following recent setbacks.
