UniCloud Africa Limited has appointed Krishnan Ranganath as its chief executive officer, in a move aimed at accelerating the company’s expansion of digital infrastructure across the continent.
Ranganath, widely known in industry circles as Dr Krish, assumes leadership at a time the firm is scaling its operations to strengthen Africa’s digital sovereignty and reduce reliance on offshore cloud services.
The appointment comes alongside the rollout of UniCloud Africa’s enterprise-grade sovereign cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure across six countries: Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, Senegal and Mozambique.
The company said it is also planning further expansion into Kenya, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Ethiopia and Côte d’Ivoire as part of its broader continental strategy.
While operating under its “One Cloud, One Africa” vision, the company provides governments and enterprises with locally hosted, compliant cloud solutions designed to address latency challenges and support Africa-focused digital innovation.
Speaking on his appointment, Ranganath said the company is positioned at a critical point in Africa’s cloud evolution, noting that his priority would be to deepen strategic partnerships and scale resilient infrastructure across key markets.
He added that UniCloud Africa would deploy next-generation technologies, including graphics processing units (GPUs), in select markets based on demand, while also addressing emerging challenges such as AI integration and energy sustainability.
“I am eager to collaborate with partners and customers to redefine the digital frontier and accelerate the growth of Africa’s digital ecosystem,” he said.
Commenting on the leadership transition, co-founder and outgoing CEO, Ladi Okuneye, expressed confidence in the new chief executive, citing his technical expertise and deep understanding of the African market.
According to him, Ranganath’s experience will be instrumental in driving the company’s next phase of growth, while he continues to serve on the board.
However, before his appointment, Ranganath served as Regional Executive for West Africa at Africa Data Centres, where he played a key role in expanding digital infrastructure within the region.
