Several brick workers have reportedly been trapped after a digging pit collapsed in Ridawa village, Ghari Local Government Area of Kano State, raising fears of possible casualties.
The incident was said to have occurred in the early hours of Wednesday while the labourers were excavating soil for brick-making when the pit suddenly caved in, burying those inside.
The member representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sani Bala, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary information indicated that about 10 persons were trapped in the collapsed pit. He called for urgent government intervention to support rescue efforts and prevent further loss of lives.
Sources in the community said several workers were inside the pit at the time of the collapse, with fears that some may have died, while others sustained injuries of varying degrees.
Emergency responders are yet to issue an official statement regarding the status of the rescue efforts as at the time of filling this report.
