The African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Executive Committee (NEC) has approved a detailed timetable for party congresses across Nigeria, starting with polling units and wards on April 7.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this after the party’s NEC meeting on Wednesday in Abuja. He said key committee reports were also endorsed, describing the proceedings as short, productive, and attended in full.
Abdullahi noted that the NEC accepted the Policy and Manifesto Committee report and the Constitutional Review Committee report, which will be presented at the National Convention on April 14. According to him, these reports define the party’s policy direction and constitutional framework, shaping ADC’s future governance agenda.
Local government congresses are scheduled for April 9, state congresses on April 11, and the National Convention in Abuja will conclude the process. Guidelines and forms for the congresses have already been distributed nationwide to ensure inclusiveness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all qualified members.
“The NEC meeting was attended by INEC representatives, lending credibility and oversight to the proceedings,” Abdullahi said. He clarified that the National Convention will not elect new officers but will ratify decisions previously made by the NEC and the National Working Committee (NWC). Elections of party officers will occur during the congresses at polling unit, ward, local government, and state levels.
Earlier, ADC national chairman, Sen. David Mark, welcomed members to the NEC meeting, stressing unity, discipline, and internal cohesion as guiding principles. He urged the party to expand grassroots engagement to connect with Nigerians across regions, religions, and generations, positioning the ADC as a platform for national renewal and inclusive governance.
Mark commended state chairmen for prioritising dialogue and consultation, emphasising that collective efforts remain vital to addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
