Romano Reveals Romero’s Release Clause Revelation, Summer Exit Looms

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shed new light on the contract situation of Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian “Cuti” Romero, revealing that there are no written release clauses in his current deal.

This information, shared on Romano’s X handle Friday morning, contradicts previous speculation about a fixed €60m clause.

Romano states that a “gentlemen’s pact” existed between Romero and former Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, allowing the player to move to Spanish clubs if suitable proposals emerged. However, this agreement was never formalized on paper and was not a fixed monetary clause. With Levy no longer at the club, this informal arrangement holds less weight.

Despite the absence of a written clause, Romano reiterates his earlier reports from February, indicating that Romero remains “likely to leave Spurs in summer.” This development will undoubtedly spark further interest from clubs, particularly those in Spain, as the transfer window approaches.
