Abia State Ministry of Environment has warned violators of the state monthly environmental sanitation exercise against daring the its resolve to keep the state clean.

The ministry stated this in a statement by the commissioner, Philemon Ogbonna, to announce the exercise slated for between 7.00 am and 10.00 am, Saturday, March 28.

The statement which was signed by the public relations officer, Chidinma Obioma, warned that defaulters would be prosecuted in line with the state’s Basic Environmental Law.

Movement of people and vehicles during the period  shall be restricted except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.

The chairmen of the local government areas, traditional rulers, town unions and religious leaders, youth and women organisations in the state, are required to monitor and sensitise their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate as well.

The Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are to assemble at their usual place of take-off for deployment, Obioma said.

Ogbonna further directed residents of the state to stay at home and clean up their areas and must work with their nose mask.

Contributing, the chairman of the State House of Assembly Committee on Environment and Urban Renewal, Kalu  Mba-Nwoke stressed that the residents must participate fully in the exercise.
