My Next Priority Is To Strengthen Kwankwasiyya Movement — Ex-Kano Dep. Gov

Former deputy governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has said his next priority is to strengthen the Kwankwasiyya political movement ahead of the 2027 general elections, following his resignation from office on Friday.

Gwarzo said his decision was guided by the need to ensure stability in governance and allow the state government to function without distractions.

In a statement accompanying his resignation, the former deputy governor noted that the move was taken after “careful consultations and deep reflection,” stressing that it was in the overall interest of peace, stability, and democratic values in Kano State.

“I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, to allow the government and the state to move forward without undue distractions,” he said.

Gwarzo, however, maintained that his resignation should not be interpreted as an admission of wrongdoing, insisting that his record in office reflected his commitment to public service and institutional integrity.

He expressed gratitude to the people of Kano State, the state executive council, the House of Assembly, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and other stakeholders for their support during his tenure.

Meanwhile, the Kwankwasiyya Movement, in a statement signed by its spokesman, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, said the former deputy governor would now channel his energy into repositioning the movement.

According to the statement, Gwarzo has resolved to focus on “strengthening its structures, rebuilding strategies, and engaging in critical political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.”

The group said the decision to resign, though difficult, was taken in the interest of the people and to safeguard stability in the state’s governance.

It added that prevailing circumstances had limited the full discharge of the responsibilities of the office, making it necessary to allow the system to function optimally.

The movement also dismissed insinuations linking the resignation to allegations raised by the Kano State House of Assembly, stressing that Gwarzo “maintains his innocence” and remains committed to democratic principles.

Describing the move as an act of political maturity, the Kwankwasiyya Movement urged its supporters and residents of the state to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of good governance.

Gwarzo’s exit comes amid heightened political developments in the state, with attention now shifting to his next political moves within the Kwankwasiyya fold and the broader realignments ahead of 2027.
