Barcelona To Offer Lewandowski New Contract On Reduced Terms

The Polish striker’s future will be decided at the end of this season. The Catalans are keen to extend his contract, but not at the current terms

Barcelona have changed their minds: Robert Lewandowski can stay at the club, but on a brand-new contract.

The current deal for the former Bayern Munich striker officially expires on 30 June 2026, at the end of the current season, and it includes a clause allowing the club to automatically extend it by one year.

Barça, however, would like to keep him, but with a contract which, as reported by Sport, has very different terms and is financially less favourable than his current one.

According to the Catalan newspaper, the contract offered to the player’s representatives involves a reduction of around half the fixed portion of the striker’s salary; he will turn 38 this summer.

On the other hand, there will be a series of bonuses linked to team and individual performance that could still push the total amount upwards. Lewandowski currently earns €30 million gross per season,

Barcelona are also working on renewing Lewandowski’s contract because they already plan to try and sign a striker this summer who has different qualities to the Pole, but who can replace him in the long term.

Julian Alvarez of Atlético Madrid is considered the club’s preferred target, but prising the Argentine away from Atlético Madrid could prove too costly for the club’s coffers, which have long been under strain due to La Liga’s financial fair play regulations. A more affordable alternative could be Hoffenheim’s Fisnik Asllani, whose transfer fee would not exceed €30 million.

If Lewandowski were to accept the offer and another striker were to arrive as well, Barcelona would find themselves almost forced to let one of the club’s current attacking talents leave, with Ferran Torres the main candidate for departure.

Furthermore, several top clubs are making moves for the former Bayern player, having sensed the opportunity for a free transfer; among them, in Italy, is Juventus.

Regardless of the financial offer, in fact, the Polish striker would want guarantees that he can continue to play a key role in Hansi Flick’s side next season.
