Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, has challenged the recently promoted directors in the civil service to ensure professionalism, accountability and result-driven leadership in their new offices.

Walson-Jack gave the charge in Abuja at an induction programme, which she described as a key component of the government’s One Knowledge System, designed to strengthen leadership capacity and institutionalise continuous development in the public sector.

The programme, which focuses on onboarding, navigation and competency development, is being extended to over 300 newly appointed directors as part of ongoing civil service reforms.

The participants were reminded that their promotion was not merely a reward, but a call to greater responsibility, noting that their performance would directly influence government effectiveness and public confidence.

She told participants to see their promotion as a call to greater responsibility, noting that their performance would directly influence government effectiveness and public confidence.

Walson-Jack also urged the directors to ensure strict adherence to public service rules and financial regulations, emphasizing that prudent management of public resources is critical to national development.

The permanent secretary, Career Management, Dr Binyerem Ukorie, in her welcome address, said as senior officers, the directors are critical stakeholders and strategic drivers in the implementation of government programmes.

“Policies are translated into measurable results. This induction has been designed to formally orient you to the expectations and responsibilities of your new role. It is part of our deliberate effort to ensure that career progression in the Service is supported by structured capacity development.
