A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Dr Leloonu Nwibubasa, has declared that the state needs a bold and courageous governor in 2027.
Nwibubasa, who is the convener of a socio-political pressure group, the Rivers Liberation Movement (RLM), made the assertion on a live radio programme monitored in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
He stated that the era of settling for timid leadership must come to an end if the people of the state are to experience meaningful development and improved living conditions.
Nwibubasa, who is also an ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, advised Rivers people to look beyond candidates who focus on road construction as a measure of progress.
“When leadership does not take proactive steps, then they will blame everything on insecurity. What promoted insecurity?
“Unemployment is part of what promoted insecurity when political leaders began to see young people as a tool for brigandage, as a tool to protect their political strength.
“And so, they didn’t see to give them jobs, but they saw it to arm them with guns,” the ADC chieftian said.
He expressed optimism that collective action of the people will help dismantle what he described as ‘anti-people status quo’.
Nwibubasa said: “A single citizen will have just one voice. We need a choir of voices; we need a choir of voices of development and that can be done by forming a group in your community, be it only three people as far as the purpose is clear that it is for development.
“You can do it in your local government, you can do it in your state and you can join a political party with that group and become a voice.
“We started Rivers Liberation Movement as a non-partisan, but today, we have seen ADC as a veritable platform, unencumbered by the things we see today to express this very desire to make Rivers State better.”
