As the African Democratic Congress (ADC) grapples with internal challenges and uncertainty over its leadership structure, a support group within the party, the ADC National Women Alliance, has declared its backing for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The group made its position known during a visit to Atiku, who is among aspirants seeking the party’s presidential ticket.
The endorsement comes at a time the party is facing internal strains, further compounded by a recent decision of the

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has raised questions about the legitimacy of some of the party’s structures and processes.
Political observers say the situation could affect the build-up to the party’s primaries, as stakeholders continue to navigate both internal disagreements and regulatory scrutiny.

Speaking during the visit, the National Coordinator of the group, Hajia Maryam Yakubu, said members were mobilising support within the party in favour of Atiku.

Yakubu attributed the group’s decision to what she described as growing dissatisfaction among Nigerians over economic conditions and governance in recent years under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We believe Nigerians are yearning for a change in direction,” she said. “As women, we are particularly concerned about the impact of economic hardship on families, especially rising unemployment and the rising cost of living.”

She maintained that the group considers Atiku a credible option within the ADC, while acknowledging that the party’s ticket remains open to contest.
