‘Protect Truth-Tellers’, ANAN Tasks National Assembly On Whistleblower Protection Bill

The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has sent an urgent plea to the National Assembly to expedite the passage of the Nigerian Whistleblower Protection Bill.

The association argued that the nation’s anti-graft war was being undermined by the victimisation of those who speak out to expose corruption.

The President of ANAN, Chief Hajia Zuwairat Talatu Kishimi, made the call while addressing the association’s 2026 Anti-Corruption Day, held on Wednesday at the ANAN headquarters in Abuja.

Kishimi lamented the high personal cost paid by Nigerians who expose financial crimes. She noted that while whistleblowers are essential to uncovering deep-seated corruption, they are frequently left vulnerable to professional and personal ruins.

“Brave Nigerians who expose corruption often find themselves punished while the guilty walk free,” the ANAN President stated. “We have seen whistleblowers lose their jobs, their safety, and even their freedom. A nation cannot fight corruption when its citizens fear speaking up.”

Chief Kishimi emphasised that a comprehensive law was no longer a luxury but a necessity for the ‘Renewed Hope’ era.

She urged lawmakers to ensure that the bill provides robust legal safeguards, ensuring that “truth-tellers” are shielded from systemic retaliation.
