The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has called for peace among the global community in the midst of conflicts ravaging the world and Nigeria even as it urged unity and national reconciliation among Nigerians.
The Director General of the Institute Dr. Joseph Ochogwu made this call in his Easter message on Saturday as Christians across all over the world and in Nigeria commemorate Easter, a sacred season that reflects the enduring message of sacrifice, redemption and hope.
He said “Easter, which is celebrated for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, remains a defining moment in the Christian faith, symbolising victory over adversity, renewal of life and the triumph of light over darkness. It is therefore a solemn and reflective period for Christians, marked by deep spiritual significance and a renewed commitment to faith and humanity.
“At this critical time in our national life, we urge all Christians to use the Easter period to offer prayers for peace, tranquility and harmony in Nigeria. Our country is currently passing through a difficult phase, with painful incidents of bloodshed reported in Plateau State, Kaduna State, Maiduguri and other parts of the nation. These unfortunate occurrences call for collective reflection, unity of purpose and sincere supplication for divine intervention, “he said.
The Institute also extended condolences to families and communities affected by these tragic events, stressing that “in this season that embodies sacrifice and resurrection, we offer words of comfort and solidarity to all who mourn, praying that God grants them strength, healing and the fortitude to endure their losses. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims, and we stand with them in their time of grief.”
According to the IPCR boss, Easter is the reflection of the enduring power of hope, adding that as a nation he citizens must hold firmly to the belief that peace is attainable.
“We therefore call on all Nigerians, irrespective of faith, ethnicity or background, to embrace peaceful coexistence and mutual respect. Let us be our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers, fostering understanding, compassion and unity in our communities.
“We also urge citizens to remain vigilant and security-conscious, while continuing to support lawful efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property. Peacebuilding is a shared responsibility, and every individual has a role to play in promoting stability and harmony.
“As we celebrate this holy season, let us preach love, extend kindness, and demonstrate compassion in our daily interactions. Let the spirit of Easter guide our actions, inspire reconciliation, and renew our commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
“The Institute reassures Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to advancing dialogue, strengthening conflict resolution mechanisms, and supporting initiatives that promote sustainable peace across the country,” the statement added.
