Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has commended two debutants, Emmanuel Fernandez and Chibuike Nwaiwu, following their first appearance for Nigeria.

The defensive duo came on as substitutes in the second half of Nigeria’s 2-1 friendly victory against Iran in March, a match played in Antalya, Turkey.

Goals from Akor Adams and Moses Simon secured the win for Eric Chelle’s side.

Reflecting on the match during an appearance on the Alexander Yaa Digg podcast, Iwobi stated: “Nice to get the win. Credit to Iran—they’re a good, solid team. Credit to us, we got the two goals we needed.

“Shout out to the two centre-backs who played the second half on their debuts. They did well—they did solid. It was a good performance. We won, and that gives us a confidence boost.”

Iwobi’s comments highlight the positive impact of the new defenders and the overall team performance, boosting morale after the friendly win.
