Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, a governorship aspirant in Ogun State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to strengthening democracy and providing leadership for national development.

Obasanjo-Bello made the remarks in a statement on Tuesday while disclosing details of her recent meeting with the President Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday.

The one-time Senator, who represented Ogun Central between 2007 and 2011, and former Commissioner for Health in Ogun State, described the meeting as “very fruitful and memorable,” noting that their discussion focused on leadership, governance and the continued development of the country.

“Yesterday in Lagos, I had the privilege of meeting His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” she said.

“Our conversation was insightful and forward-looking, focusing on leadership, governance, and the ongoing development of our nation and Ogun State.”

She added, “I sincerely thank the President for his time, wisdom and his lasting commitment to strengthening our democracy and supporting the next generation of leaders.”

Reaffirming her ambition to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun in 2027, Obasanjo-Bello said she remained committed to a people-centred style of leadership.

“As we continue consultations ahead of 2027, I remain committed to serving with integrity, experience, and a people-centered approach. The journey continues with purpose, clarity and enduring dedication to Ogun State,” she said.

Speaking further on her aspiration, she highlighted her experience in the state’s political landscape, stressing her understanding of the people’s needs.

“I have been part of the political landscape of this state for many years and I understand the aspirations and challenges of our people.

“I am not new to the system, and I believe that experience is important when it comes to governance and delivering meaningful development to the people.”

The former lawmaker also outlined her priorities if elected governor, with emphasis on education, healthcare and job creation.

“What Ogun State needs at this time is leadership that understands the people and is committed to transforming every sector of our economy,” she said.

“If given the opportunity to serve as governor, I will focus on strengthening education, improving healthcare delivery and creating employment opportunities for our youths.

“We must build a state where our young people have jobs, where our schools produce future leaders, and where our health institutions can adequately cater for the needs of our citizens.

“My commitment is to work tirelessly to ensure that every part of Ogun State experiences real development and improved quality of life.”
